Hand painted natural hair phone cases

So I'm creating natural hair depicted designs to paint onto phone cases. Each case is hand painted and will be one of a kind to each customer.

To order please email me at myrickhair@gmail.com stating your:

• phone model
• what you like to do or what you do for a living (optional)
•how you like to wear your hair the most.

And I will then create something personally for you. I will email an invoice and upon payment send your case to you via USPS.

All cases are $20. Here are some sample photos of designs I've already created. The yellow hairstylist case is available on a first come first served basis. I will comment when it is no longer available.

Product review: hask Macadamia oil hydrating deep conditioning hair treatment

I bought this last weekend, hadn't seen it before but figured since I love their macadamia oil exotic shine treatment, I should try this. Then i noticed the price $2.49 i almost put it back because i assumed it would be $1.00 like hasks henna and placenta paks. I also liked organix macadamia oil deep conditioner, but I ran out and the store I was at didn't have it in stock so I figured this would be the next best thing.

I washed, conditioned and detangles my hair, rinsed and towel dried my hair. I applied this to my hair in sections. Immediately my hair was softened and I could feel that my hair loved everything about this stuff. Section after section my hair felt amazing and the smell... Mmm heavenly. It smells just like the oil treatment so I wasn't surprised. I left this on overnight and rinsed in the morning.

My hair still felt soft, and smooth. It rinsed out clean and didn't leave a residue feeling. My curls were very defined and frizz free. And I could feel that it had penetrated my hair. I noticed a bit of a strengthening affect because there was less shedding when I was styling my hair afterwards. I could see why this was priced a little higher than their other treatments. And I'm glad I decided to go with this. I am very pleased with this, will buy again and would suggest this to anyone who likes macadamia oil, needs a moisturizing treatment or just want to revitalize their hair.

To be quite honest if I had to compare... I'd say I actually like this better than organix macadamia oil deep conditioner. My only gripe... I just wish they made this in a jar or bottle size, it would just make it a bit more convenient.

What it promises: Macadamia oil hydrating deep conditioning hair treatment with keratin, is an ultra restorative, moisturizing treatment that will rejuvenate dry damaged chemically treated or over processed hair. Macadamia oil, native to Australia, is known for its absorbing deep penetrating and cuticle sealing qualities while leaving even the most damaged hair soft and nourished for incredible shine. Treat you hair with this nourishing reconstructive conditioner formulated to bring life back into your lustrous looking locks!

Ingredients: water, cetearyl alcohol cetrimonium chloride, lanolin, quaternium-18, macadamia nut seed oil, hydrolyzed collagen, hydrolyzed keratin protein, silk amino acids, black walnut leaf extract, jojoba seed oil, panthenol, glycerin, isopropyl palmitate, tetrasodium EDTA, citric acid, propylparaben, methylparaben, caramel, yellow 5, green 5, DMDM hydantoin, fragrance.

Megan's hair update

Megan's hair has presented me with some challenges. Before her, I was known to be able to get your hair growing; her hair kept trying to prove that notion wrong.

From day one it had grown in uneven. I kept thinking I should cut it all even but I never did and by the time i was going to, i didn't want to hack it all off. So I kept working with it and trimming off more than the usual to get it full and healthy.

Her texture has very little curl definition, is very delicate and very dry (not brittle, just hard to retain moisture) which made it challenging to retain length evenly. I felt like I tried every moisturizing product there was, with little result.

In the past year tho I have started her on a new routine which has her hair doing MUCH better. I'm seeing a lot of growth and fullness. I'm still cutting it down so it will all be even in length and fullness but after the next few trims I think it will be exactly where I want it to be. And I'm excited!

I love to see little Afro American girls with long, thick, healthy, natural weave free hair. I love the confidence and pride it gives her to see her own hair make progress. I know hair isn't everything, and I teach her that. But it does mean a lot to know that being a black girl doesn't inhibit you from having longer lengths. and that you don't have to feel inferior to someone of another race who has long hair.

Her moisture level is in control, I've found that contrary to what I thought, her hair doesn't like heavy shea butter (as a moisturizer). It makes it sticky, and weighed down, and attracts a lot of dirt which only locks into her braids and makes it a nightmare when it's time to take her braids down. Rather her hair responds very well to lighter oils like coconut oil which penetrates the shaft.

This past wash day I was thrilled to see her hair thickening quite a bit , and the length she's acquired; which means I can start trimming off less hair per trim (3-4 time a year).

Routine: I wash her hair once a month with either a sulfate free shampoo or mostly co wash (her hair loves to be co washed) deep condition with every wash, trim 3-4 times a year, and an occasional protein treatment (for strength) and I pay close attention to her hair needs. And I haven't been blow drying it. I twist and she sits with a dryer bonnet on.

Shampoo: Shea moisture yucca and baobab thickening shampoo (her hair loves this stuff it seems to be working... It's been 3months)

Co wash: Trader joes tea tree tingle conditioner or suave rosemary mint conditioner

Rinse out / detangle: same as co wash.

Deep conditioner: shea moisture deep penetrating treatment or I make my own.

Leave-in/styling: herbal essences LTR leave in, garnier fructis sleek & shine leave-in, most recent loreal ever sleek leave in, tresemme heat tamer spray, tresemme keratin smooth heat protection spray, coconut oil, Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie, profectiv growth sheen to finish.

Mya's hair update

Mya has always had a thick head of hair, of which I've been caring for since she could sit up straight. It's fine hair but a lot of it. She has coily/ curly hair, I'm not much into typing but I guess you could say she's a 4a. I love seeing it flourish and grow into the beautiful mane it's becoming and I can't wait for what's in store. It is growing nicely, and its healthy and strong.

Routine: She gets her hair washed once a month (depending on how dirty it is, i will either do a sulfate free shampoo, or i will co wash it), along with a deep conditioning treatment. I trim her ends 2-3 times a year because I'm working on length retention and I've been doing a lot of protective styles where her ends are not exposed, especially because I don't live with her and can't do daily/ weekly maintenance. Her hair is worn in braided styles to preserve the health of her hair and coconut oil is used approx every other day to maintain moisture.

Products:
I have her on a no sulfate, low silicone routine so...

Shampoo: If I shampoo I use organix shampoos, trader joes nourish spa shampoo, and most recently loreal ever sleek reparative shampoo.

Co wash: trader joes tea tree tingle conditioner.

Deep conditioner: I either make one or I use shea moisture deep penetrating treatment.

Rinse out/detangling conditioner: suave rosemary mint conditioner, trader joes nourish spa conditioner, and most recently loreal ever sleek reparative conditioner.

Leave in /styling: herbal essences long term relationship leave in, fructis sleek and shine leave in, most recently loreal ever sleek leave in, tresemme heat tamer, most recently tresemme keratin smooth heat protection spray, coconut oil, shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie, profectiv growth sheen spray.

Product review: Organix vanilla silk

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a sucker and a huge fan of the organix line. So it's no surprise that I had been eyeing this duo for a while now. I have the biggest obsession with all things vanilla so that only added to the fiendish-ness.

On first sight when I flipped the lid to sniff it, the yummy goodness in this bottle was enough to make me want to impulse buy this. It smells like creamy vanilla mixed with white chocolate. Reading what the product promises "soft & silky" hair, "nourish and moisturize", "strengthen and seal... Cuticles". Plus the already known fact that its sulfate and paraben free... I could not resist!!

Once I got it home I jumped in the shower and... Honestly it's been a good while since I used their shampoo... But instantly it made my hair feel exactly the way I've been craving for a shampoo to make it feel. It's rich, creamy lather moisturized my strands leaving them soft and silky, and manageable not matted or stripped. It felt like I could detangle it with the shampoo on my hair. It rinsed clean and left my hair feeling soft.

Then the conditioner... It's thick consistency can double as a deep conditioner. When applied to soaking wet hair it produced a foam that moisturizes the strands and combs thru easily. It also rinses out clean yet leaves the hair soft, silky, and conditioned. It also gave my hair a noticeable, glowing shine, I hadn't seen in a while. And of course it leaves my hair smelling like vanilla... Mmmmmm.

I just wish they had vanilla silk styling products to enhance my vanilla experience after I wash and condition. I know they had a serum, which was discontinued for one reason or another and replaced by the Moroccan oil serum. But that's not vanilla.... So no. They need to fix that.

I did straight my hair to style and it was soft and sleek, it didn't puff up at the first sign of moisture as it usually does. So I think I'm loving this stuff beyond the scent.

Soft & silky vanilla silk:

indulge your senses with this exclusive blend of smoothing Tahitian vanilla bean oils to instantly nourish and moisturize, while silk amino proteins strengthen and seal your hair's cuticles, revitalizing your hair, creating silky, smooth shiny hair.

What you want: smoothing Tahitian vanilla bean oils blended with exotic silk amino proteins create a decadent treat. All you need for soft, smooth and seductive hair in one irresistible formula.

Shampoo:
What you do: apply organix shampoo generously to wet hair, massage into a lather through to ends, then rinse the hair thoroughly. After shampooing, follow with organix conditioner.

Ingredients: water, disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, sodium c14-16 olein sulfonate, cocamidopropyl betaine, cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, parfum, glycol distearate, dimethicone copolyol, cetyl alcohol, cocamide DEA, DMDM hydantoin, guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, polyquarternium-11, silk amino acids, panthenol, vanilla oil, shea butter, vitamin E, limonene, CI 19140 (yellow 5)

Conditioner:
What you do: after shampooing with organix shampoo, apply organix conditioner generously to hair, working through ends. Wait 3-5 minutes. Rinse hair thoroughly.

Ingredients: water, parfum, behentrimonium chloride, cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone, cetearyl glycoside, glyceryl stearate, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, jojoba seed oil, cetyl alcohol, panthenol, silk, amino acids, vanilla oil, DMDM hydantoin, shea butter, vitamin E, tetra sodium EDTA, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, limonene, CI 19140 (yellow 5)

Product review: 1st impression: Loreal eversleek

1st impression of the shampoos: didn't soften my hair on contact as a moisturizing poo does. It almost felt as if it would strip my hair, but once I rinsed I was pleasantly surprised at how soft my curls were, I kept touching my hair.

1st impression of the deep conditioner: it's very light, it didn't feel like it would penetrate my hair shaft or moisturize it at all. But in the time I left one side to sit while I applied some to the other side, going back to the first to ensure its evenly distributed, my hair was softened and moisturized I couldn't believe it. and it was even better once I left it to sit the full 10 mins. I think this would work wonderfully in conjunction with a steamer.

1st impression of conditioner: it didn't detangle well, wasn't enough slip. At this point I just knew it was going to be amaze-balls, but it wasn't. I was disappointed.

1st impression of leave in: this stuff was great!! It moisturizes, detangles well, makes hair manageable, and defines curls a bit. I could see the sleeking effect with this. It's very very light though, so if you need something a bit heftier... You may not like this. This is a great summer product for me.

1st impression of finishing creme: another light weight moisturizer. I used this for a braid out, didn't really like it for that because it gave no hold so my hair was less defined and more pillowy (not necessarily a bad thing just not what I intended)... But it doesn't promise hold or definition so I couldn't be disappointed on that front. Next time I will use as directed to really review.

1st impression of precious oil treatment: I used this to take down my braid out, it added even more softness and the smell is great pretty reminiscent of the typical argan oil scent with a sweeter undertone.

Although I didn't straighten my hair with this line to see the benefits of the "sleek performance" I can say that my hair was a lot more manageable in its natural state, easier to comb even after being partially air dried, and better curl definition. It has a light moisturizing texture that leaves the hair very soft and not weighed down. This is great for the summer because its so light weight.

I plan on using it again in the warmer seasons, and this time I will straighten with it to really test the sleek properties of the line.

I'll be back for a full review of each piece.

Product Review: Dove purely pampering shea butter body wash w/warm vanilla

Now I'm an avid dove user; so anything they make can pretty much do no wrong, as far as I'm concerned.

I've been using their beauty bath bars lately and I had recently come across this scent in bar form. I used it and fell in love with it because: of its moisturizing properties, it's SLS & ALS free, and of course the smell... Mmmm vanilla.

Well anyway, when I ran out of my bars I ventured out to my normal spots to re-up... But I couldn't find them anywhere, we'll at least not this particular scent. So I purchased another dove scent for the meantime. Every time I went to buy some bars, they never had my vanilla.

Well last week I went to buy some toiletries and I seen the body wash at rite aid... On sale... For $4 less than its normal price. The bargainista in me said: "buy it!" My nose said: "girl don't play with me you better buy this ish!!" But the naturalista in me said: "Hmmm... I don't know, it has SLS and petrolatum in it... I don't do those." But the jones in me told me to listen to my nose and bargainista because they know I been needing this scent in my life. Plus I can never go wrong with dove.

Needless to say as apprehensive as I was, (for all of 5 seconds), I bought this big bottle of goodness and am loving it. Although it doesn't lather the same way the bar does when i apply it to my shower gloves, It's very moisturizing and I think of the petrolatum as a moisture barrier to seal the moisture into my skin. (Sniffs skin) I needed my fix!!!

I do wish they made the body wash with similar ingredients as the bar so it's SLS free as well... But anyway it'll do for now. And the pampering is real, my skin is super soft.

What it promises:

Dove purely pampering: a shower experience that nourishes and pampers.

Dove shea butter with warm vanilla body wash creates a cloud of creamy lather that will leave you feeling restored. The warm scent fills the shower enveloping you with care, allowing you to feel balanced and renewed.

Dove with NutriumMoisture gently cleanses while nourishing deep down, giving your skin the best care.
