Product review: Maybelline Colossal Big Shot volum' express mascara

Disclaimer: I received the Colossal Big Shot mascara by Maybelline in an influenster voxbox. It was complimentary (free) for testing purposes, which in no way affects my opinion on the product.

Now this was my first voxbox so I felt like a big deal receiving this box with maybelline and influenster marked on it. When I opened it up it was packaged perfectly. In the box was the Maybelline Colossal Big Shot volum' express mascara, Master Precise curvy liquid eyeliner, a card with info on the mascara and instructions on how to post reviews about the product on social media (specific tags and hashtags). And packing paper to keep everything from flopping around in the box.

What it promises:
WASHABLE MASCARA
•Lashes go so powerful, fully loaded volume in one coat.
Ophthalmologist tested. •suitable for contact lens wearers.

•To use: sweep brush from root to tip for dramatic volume. Re-dip and apply to other eye to see similar dramatic results. Removes easily with oil free make-up remover.

Ok so I had some other new make up items I'd recently bought (including Maybelline's FIT me! matte + poreless foundation) I wanted to try so now was the perfect time to try everything out and beat my face. This mascara really hit the mark. It does what it says, the brush is made with tons of bristles that loads more product so you don't have to put on so many coats to get the full effect it boasts.

I was left with full lashes without the clumpy tarantula look you get from other mascaras. It builds well, so you can add a couple of coats if you need to without the fear of clumping. The shade of "blackest black" they sent me was a rich jet black. It also claims to wash off easily, and it really did come off with one wash.

Product review: Trader Joes coconut body butter

This stuff is the truth!! I could leave it at that but I will elaborate.

I've been meaning to write a review for this stuff, but I admit I haven't partly because I selfishly didn't wanna put people onto it for fear I won't find it when I need a re-up. And then I just couldn't get the words out to describe it.

I was introduced to this product last year when I was at my dads house and seen a jar on my little sisters dresser. I flipped the top for a whiff of what was inside, and immediately started scheming on how to Deebo this from her without her missing it. I decided against it and went to Trader Joe's for my own especially after I found out the price of this yummy-ness. When I like something I love it hard so I grabbed two jars without hesitation. And I haven't used anything else since. Aside from the smell, this thick creamy, buttery, heavenly delight goes on smooth and goes to work immediately. It's fast absorbing so there's no greasy after feel and it's not heavy, just truly moisturizing and it lasts all day. This is especially great on those rough dry troublesome areas like hands, heels, elbows and knees, it really softens those areas. And a little goes a loooong way.

Price: 5.99 for 8 oz jar

What it smells like:
It has a sweet coconut/ cake batter type of fragrance. I've gotten a lot of compliments just wearing this alone. It's not an overbearing, nauseatingly nose raping smell, it just smells lovely yet it's noticeable.

I use this after I shower with Dove's Shea and vanilla body bar. They compliment each other well. And then I spray on some Victorias Secret very sexy now (which I think is discontinued) I bought some bottles on a clearance sale.

What it promises: no promise, the product speaks for itself.

What's in it: purified water, coconut oil, cetyl alcohol, capric/caprylic triglyceride, glyceryl stearate se, glycerin, stearyl alcohol, Shea butter, aloe leaf juice, clary extract, vitamin E, grapefruit fruit extract, yucca extract, dimethicone, orange peel extract, rosemary leaf extract, marshmallow extract, lemongrass extract, carbomer, centella asiaica extract, matricaria flower extract, polysorbate, 20, hops extract, sodium benzoate, disodium EDTA, lemon peel extract, horsetail extract, vaccinium myrtillus fruit/leaf extract, fragrance, ethylhexylglycerin, phenoxyethanol, sodium hydroxide, potassium sorbate.

Product review: hask Macadamia oil hydrating deep conditioning hair treatment

I bought this last weekend, hadn't seen it before but figured since I love their macadamia oil exotic shine treatment, I should try this. Then i noticed the price $2.49 i almost put it back because i assumed it would be $1.00 like hasks henna and placenta paks. I also liked organix macadamia oil deep conditioner, but I ran out and the store I was at didn't have it in stock so I figured this would be the next best thing.

I washed, conditioned and detangles my hair, rinsed and towel dried my hair. I applied this to my hair in sections. Immediately my hair was softened and I could feel that my hair loved everything about this stuff. Section after section my hair felt amazing and the smell... Mmm heavenly. It smells just like the oil treatment so I wasn't surprised. I left this on overnight and rinsed in the morning.

My hair still felt soft, and smooth. It rinsed out clean and didn't leave a residue feeling. My curls were very defined and frizz free. And I could feel that it had penetrated my hair. I noticed a bit of a strengthening affect because there was less shedding when I was styling my hair afterwards. I could see why this was priced a little higher than their other treatments. And I'm glad I decided to go with this. I am very pleased with this, will buy again and would suggest this to anyone who likes macadamia oil, needs a moisturizing treatment or just want to revitalize their hair.

To be quite honest if I had to compare... I'd say I actually like this better than organix macadamia oil deep conditioner. My only gripe... I just wish they made this in a jar or bottle size, it would just make it a bit more convenient.

What it promises: Macadamia oil hydrating deep conditioning hair treatment with keratin, is an ultra restorative, moisturizing treatment that will rejuvenate dry damaged chemically treated or over processed hair. Macadamia oil, native to Australia, is known for its absorbing deep penetrating and cuticle sealing qualities while leaving even the most damaged hair soft and nourished for incredible shine. Treat you hair with this nourishing reconstructive conditioner formulated to bring life back into your lustrous looking locks!

Ingredients: water, cetearyl alcohol cetrimonium chloride, lanolin, quaternium-18, macadamia nut seed oil, hydrolyzed collagen, hydrolyzed keratin protein, silk amino acids, black walnut leaf extract, jojoba seed oil, panthenol, glycerin, isopropyl palmitate, tetrasodium EDTA, citric acid, propylparaben, methylparaben, caramel, yellow 5, green 5, DMDM hydantoin, fragrance.

Product Review: The biggest waste of hair related money I've ever spent

Since I've done my big chop and went natural, I've been on blogs, sites and youtube channels and as if in the holy grail of natural hair; the Denman brush has seemed to be every natural head's staple hair care tool.

Although I already owned a brush that detangled my hair to extreme satisfaction, I decided to break down and buy one to see what all the hype was all about.

I was so excited to finally own a denman brush that I had to use it right away. I section my hair off into six sections to wash, condition, and detangle. With my hair soaking wet I apply my conditioner and proceed to detangle.

First stroke... Starting at the ends... Disappointed. I created sub sections so I can get a better handle on things... Disappointed. Applied more condish...then more water...A little less disappointed. I finished one section 15 mins later, looked at the brush and seen the same amount of hair I normally see when I'm done with my whole head. This brush REALLY isnt for me. I even tried again with my leave in/sealing regime... Then I finally nixed the damn thing and ran for my ouchless brush without looking back.

All in all, there is not one good word I can say about a denman (or a look-a-like). I wanted to love this brush, and I gave it more than a fair chance. Lesson learned in following the crowd; especially in hair care.

Product Review: Herbal Essences Touchably Smooth Conditioner

Yea, so I went out and bought a bottle of HE TS today, just cuz I wanted to try something new. I usually use and love LTR for my cowashes but I ran low and decided to re-up on my product... but when I got there TS was calling my name, so I gave in. Anywho... I decided to use it asap.

The promise: "It's in the stars! See smoothness in your future? How about some protection from humidity? Try this deep conditioning formula for all hair types so your ppath to soft, smoothe hair is perfectly clear."

Ingredients: water, stearyl alcohol, behentrimonium methosulfate, hydrolyzed silk, lilium hybrid extract, zea mays (corn) silk extract, fragrance, cetyl alcohol, bis-aminopropyl dimethicone, benzyl alcohol, dicetyldimonium chloride, disodium edta, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, red 33.

During the cowash I noticed a BIG difference between TS and LTR... no not for the better. LTR always melts over my hair and pretty much dissolves tangles upon application, TS... not so much, I couldn't get that good saturated feeling.

During the combout/ detangling it didn't slip as much as LTR does. LTR gives instant slip, add more water and the comb glides thru, TS... again not so much. Don't get me wrong, it detangles, but I had to stand under the shower head to get close to the same slip as with LTR.

During the rinse out it rinsed out clean, and although I was turned off during the past two steps; I was surprised at how soft it left my hair after I removed my turbie twist... very silky. And ofcourse it smells amazing, like roses (or maybe its lillies... as the bottle says its fused with pink lily and asian silk).

Overall I liked the final result as far as the softness. My curls weren't anymore defined or as defined as they are when I use LTR, and I disliked that part. Just because it says its a smoothing condish, I didn't expect to have someone elses texture, but I kinda wanted it to un-frizz at least a little... I don't feel it did that. When I co-wash I like for my condish to be a bit foamy/ frothy, this didn't offer that to me (LTR does.) When I detangle I like to use as little effort as possible, especially since my 3c hair doesn't require any tugging or pulling at all when wet and saturated with condish. I had to try to get my wide tooth comb thru my hair with TS until I stood under the shower head. But as I stated before, my hair was touchably soft... I guess smooth. Sooo... it pretty much does what it says but if you're looking for moisture, not here. My hair needs moisture and this didn't do it for me (I guess that was my bad, cuz it says nothing about moisture).

Will I use this again?? Probably the next time I decide to straighten my hair (which won't be until a good while from now), so back to LTR it is for me.

P.S. the whole time I was using this I felt like I was cheating, and not even enjoying it. LoL!!

I may try HH (hello hydration) next, or break's over (if I can find it) word on the web is its been discontinued. But as my staple cowash... I'm sticking with LTR, it hasn't let me down (unless they do a formula change or worse- discontinues it... +insert blood curdling scream here* lol... but seriously.)

Product Review: Shea Moisture Deep Penetrating Treatment Masque

Soooo... I finally got my mits on some shea moisture deep treatment w\ raw shea butter and argan oil. Ive been hearing alot, both good and bad, about this product so i decided to try for myself. This particular day, I actually set out to buy mizani's fulfyl because i used to use it when I was transitioning and I liked the way it conditioned my hair. But along my nh journey I've learned that silicones arent good for our hair... and fulfyl is chock full of cones, but I was desperate to get that feeling back. So yes i set out for my cone fix, but they were out of stock at the Beauty Supply I go to. After disappointedly browsing the shelves for a substitute for 15 mins I refused to buy just ANYthing and remembered seeing shea moisture in a DR in the city about a week prior. So I went across the street to see if the one by me had it.

1st off I got mine at a local Duane Reade and paid 13+ for it after tax... wont do that again when I now know its sold a little cheaper at Walmart and target. Anyway... aside from being monetarily violated, lol, I must say I was very, very pleasantly surprised. I decided to use it twice before doing my review, since I know if I love something the 1st time I use it, I'm usually pissed and disappointed come the second time around.

Yes, I did use it as a DC and it worked just fine used the way its supposed to be used. I havent used it as a leave in as of yet, I know alot of you tubers prefer to use theirs as a leave in/ moisturizer... I dont know if thats because it didnt work for them as a DC or what, but every head is different.

It contains no parabens, petroleum, mineral oil, silicone, OR... alcohol (still dont know why that's a main ingredient in most conditioners anyway).Theres NOTHING bad in it... which was the selling point for me while i stood in the aisle studying the ingredients list. Its made of certified organic raw shea butter, oils, herbs, and extracts. It does everything it says it will, and has a good slip for detangling. And unlike alot of people, I actually love the scent!!! I guess every nose is different too (smile). I thought it was gonna stink from what I heard from others, its more if a shea butter smell to it. And... i didnt have to use a whole lot of it in order to saturate my hair (section by section of course), its a thick, rich consistency... so its gonna last a good while. Me likey that aloooot.

After I DC'd I flat ironed my hair straight, that was on friday... 4 days later and I havent had to touch it up yet. Its been humid, it tried to rain and get me caught out there... but my hair stayed straight, and thats saying ALOT cuz normally I could flat iron my hair tonight and wake up lookin like a fuzz ball in various parts of my head tomorrow morning, therefore having to re-flat iron a majority of it... which is why I hate wearing my hair straight. My hair is full, fine and dry so it needs the perfect amount of moisture to keep it from being either dried out or greasy looking.

********CHEESY****** INFO-MERCIAL****** ALERT!!!*********

Shea moisture is my perfect balance, and Im ecstatic that I dont have to look any further for a DC or settle for one with ingredients Im not totally comfortable with.

Product Review: Keracare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo (sufate free)

Ok, I told you guys on twitter that Keracare has finally gone sulfate free. I was at my local beauty supply store in search of a dc or hair mask that didn't have mineral oil; which I've decided to make my own.

Anyway, as I was browsing the shelves, I noticed that Avlon changed the appearance of Keracare's bottles. I picked it up the hydrating detangling shampoo to see if there were any changes in their formula as well. I was pleasantly surprised to see "sulfate free" on the front of the bottle. I just had to buy it and try it.

I was already a fan of this shampoo before the formula change, when I had relaxed hair. It works just as well as it did when it had sulfates, as far as cleansing, rich lather, moisture, and detangling are concerned. I wouldn't recommend this poo for those with a finer texture, oily or thin hair, as it will definitely weigh your hair down which isn't a desired look.

Overall, I like this shampoo and I'm glad I have the option of using it again because its sulfate free. This isn't one of my staples but I'd use it if I needed a moisture boost.

What it promises: •Produces a rich lather to remove exess oils from hair and scalp without stripping •Lightly conditions •Eases wet and dry combing •Repairs damaged areas •Moisturizes •Sulfate free

Ingredients: Water, Disodium Cocomiphodipropionate, Trideceth-7 Carboxylic acid, Lauramide DEA, Disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, Polysorbate 20, Glycol stearate, Polyquaterium-7, Polyquaterium-10, Hydrolized wheat protein, Citric acid, Fragrance, Tetrasodium EDTA, Diozolidinyl urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbomate, Benzyl salicylate, Hexyl cinnamal, Linalool, Alpha isomethyl ionate, Yellow #5

I also picked up the Humecto condish, review coming soon.

Pantene™ Curly Review

About 3 or 4 weeks ago I took one of my usual trips to the shampoo aisle
of my local drugstore, and noticed that Pantene™ has re-invented
themselves... again. I know that when this happens, most of the time our
favorites get dropped. So I checked to see which products got cut and
which ones hit the shelves. Safe to say most of the faves are still
alive... just some reformulation and of course new look and smell. We
have more options now... like I have, or had fine hair that needed
volume (in my relaxed days), yet it dries out easily, so I would've
liked to use Full & Thick but clear shampoo's dry hair out but Relaxed
and Natural was a little heavy for my hair. Well now, they have a Flat
to Volume line that has three different formulas for your specific type
of fine hair, I would be able to use Dry to Moisturized which is creamy,
moisturizing, and light enough to give a volume boost (thumbs up). They
also have new additions like Medium-Thick Hair Solutions w/ 4
formulations of it's own, and so it goes for all the other groups. Upon
seeing Pantene's "custom fit hair care" I was like a kid in a candy
store: new hair care products, sale, and it's Pantene... of which I am
an ultimate fan. Now, since my hair is now natural I've been on the hunt
for a product that makes my hair look curly and not... the "N" word. So
my final choice was from their Curly Hair Series line, of which they
have two formulations- Dry to Moisturized and Curls to Straight... I
chose Dry to Moisturized. Just like the kid /candystore... I must taste
my goodies ASAP, so as soon as I got home I washed, treated then
conditioned. It has a nice feel, creamy, good slip, and once I set my
curls it looks like curls. Next day however not SO much tho. My curls
were stil visible but they had puffed out and had a dryer look than they
did the day prior. But I re-applied w/ water and voila... they're back.
My issue is that I had to keep reapplying REGULARLY. I love Pantene and
wasn't totally disappointed, but I don't think this was made with my
type of curls in mind. This would be perfect for someone with bigger and
looser curls, with a finer hair texture. Mine just need a heavier duty
type of moisture. I will use the remainder as a co-wash, it rinses out
lovely and leaves hair with a light, clean feel. And it smells nice too,
still bias on the original scent though (nothing beats it, sorry).

Overall I'd recommend the curly line to my bestfriend Migdalia, who is
hispanic, has bigger curls than I do, that dry out and get matted when
not properly quenched. This would be perfect for her and any other curl
like hers.

And I still love pantene conditioners.

I just bought a bottle of Plant Shampoo For Hair Loss by Deity of Hair.

The plan is to use this until the bottle is done without alternating
poo's. I want to see if this product works as good as the ads say. I
want something that's going to accelerate growth and soften my natural
hair in one product. According to the ingredients there's tuber of
multiflower knoweed, angelica, fruit of rangoon creeper, fruit of glossy
privet, myrobalan root bark of shaggy gruited dittany, ginseng, saffron,
and more that do exactly what I want it to do, along with strengthen and
thicken my hair.
I'll record my results I didn't purchase the matching conditioner... so
I use either of my Organix conditioners.

*sidebar: I also used the tibet
tonic hair growth restorer by deity america and in two weeks it made my
hair grow already. i'm impressed now that i'm using the shampoo as well,
we'll see how how far it takes me in my hair growth journey.

*side note this was originally written 5-5-10 tomorrow I will post an
update on my results, with pics.

Another one of my hair faves!!

This isn't heavy, doesn't weigh hair down, but coats hair with a
protective layer to prevent damage and mend split ends.
